The ukulele is a wonderfully approachable instrument! If you’re a singer who wants to accompany yourself, or you have a young child who isn’t quite ready for the guitar, the ukulele is a perfect option. The smaller neck allow you to start playing chords quickly and easily!
My ukulele lessons in Winnipeg are tailored to give you the skills and understanding needed to not only be accompanying yourself and playing along to songs after the very first lesson, but to develop the creativity to find your own unique style.
Ukulele lessons that give you freedom
Music is a language, and needs to be taught like a language. Too many ukulele teachers in Winnipeg give students a few songs to play, but never give them the ability to express themselves. This is as if when you were learning to speak you were given certain words to say, and then corrected when you said them wrong! Would you have ever learned to speak?
Instead, my ukulele lessons allow you the freedom to explore, even from the very beginning. Improvisation and songwriting are used as a tool to instill a deeper and more intuitive understanding of music – just like a language!
Structured and methodical ukulele lessons
Although my ukulele lessons are responsive to your needs, that doesn’t mean they’re random!
In my ukulele lessons I take a step by step approach, breaking down techniques and concepts into their fundamental elements, allowing you to build your skills and musicality in a structured way.
So in my ukulele lessons you’ll learn all the foundational elements of ukulele, including:
-Strumming
-Chords
-Scales
-Improvisation/Jamming
-Technique
-Playing by ear
-Music theory
I can also teach specific techniques, such as fingerpicking, and can even include songwriting and basic recording techniques to create your own music. If you have a specific skill or aspect of music you want to explore, let me know!
Students also receive video practice routines, recorded at the end of the ukulele lesson to help reinforce concepts that we’ve explored in the lesson, as well as custom jam tracks for improvisation!
Ukulele lessons for all ages and experience levels
I offer guitar lessons for children as young as 6. The ukulele is a perfect instrument for smaller children, as it is easier for small hands to play.
